Overview

Ruitersvlei is situated in one of the oldest wine farming areas in the Western Cape. The first record of the farm appeared in 1688. The farm was originally called Ruigtervallei. It measured 57 morgen, and was  granted to a Mr Guillame Frisnet. It was reorganised by a Dutch naval officer and his wife in 1789.

The farm is located in the midst of some of the most recognised wine farms in the Paarl area. Surrounding and neighbouring farms include Spice Route, Fairview, Laborie, Rhebokskloof, and Landskroon Wine Estate.

Ruitersvlei is situated beneath the Paarl Mountain Reserve, comprising over 2 200 hectares of pristine unspoiled open space on the slopes of the Paarl Mountain. The slopes of the mountain have long been recognised as one of the finest wine growing areas in the world, and home to some of the finest wines and ports produced in South Africa.

The beautiful granite outcrop, second largest of its kind in the world, dominates the surrounding environment of Paarl.

Today the area under cultivation consists of two farms, Ruitersvlei and the neighbouring farm Vrymansfontein.
