Reiersvlei

Overview

Situated in the picturesque Prince Albert Valley in the Great Karoo, this Wine Farm is located en route between the majestic Meiringspoort and famous Swartberg pass.

Being 24kms from the quaint little town of Prince Albert, Reiersvlei Wine Cellar is one of only a handful of Great Karoo Wine Estates which differs from the Little Karoo. With its unique combination of summer afternoon winds and valley soils having been laid from thousands of years of erosion off the Swartberg Mountains, the valley is blessed with pure water from the snow and rains these alluring mountains generate.

With all its contrasts this Wine Farm ranks as one of the highest in the country, standing at an average of 860+ metres above sea level. The topography of the valley floor combined with the lower mountain slopes affords a perfect location for growing quality grapes. The rich valley flora and fauna compliment Reiersvlei Wine Cellar which boasts an interesting resident Heron population after which Reiersvlei was named.

In our beautiful valley we pride ourselves on the “Estate” that all aspects of the winemaking process continue on the farm. Grapes are grown, harvested, crushed, de-stemmed and fermented in the cellar, this being housed in an old historic building which has been delightfully restored. Fermentation, ageing, filtration, bottling and labelling then complete the journey to excellent wines.
