Onderkloof

Overview

Onderkloof is situated in the historical wine region of Stellenbosch in the Western Cape. The sea and nearest town, Somerset West, are only 6 kilometers away.

The name Onderkloof means “below the valley” and comes from the Pass which leads over the Hottentots Holland Mountains. In earlier years, all goods which have been shipped to and from Cape Town, were transported with ox wagons over these mountains into the countryside. The ruts are still visible today and the pass has become a national monument.

The farm is 65 hectares big. Large parts are covered with forests and meadows. 12 Hectare is covered with vineyards. The varietals are Muscat d’Alexandrie, Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinotage and Shiraz. Onderkloof also purchases grapes from farms in its region. The varietals include Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. All grapes are handpicked and vinified in our own cellar.

Onderkloof has four self-catering cottages available. The beautiful view of the ocean and Cape Point together with the unique African sunsets turn every stay at Onderkloof into a lasting memory.

Our tasting room is now open every first Saturday of the month at 10:30am - 3pm.
