n the late 1800s, the Moni Family from Lucca, Italy, went in search of better opportunities and heard about the goldfields of Johannesburg. They decided to move there to seek their fortunes. To cater to the growing number of Italian immigrants who followed them, the Monis established a grocery store that sold imported goods from Italy. Over time, the store evolved into South Africa's largest pasta manufacturer, Fatti's & Monis.
