DeWaal Wines

Overview

DeWaal Wines is situated in the beautiful Stellenbosch Kloof Valley, just outside of Stellenbosch.  Known to be one of the oldest farms in Stellenbosch,  this farm dates back to 1682 and has been in the hands of the DeWaal family since 1864.

The DeWaal  family has been making wine for 9 generations, since their arrival in the Cape in 1715.  One of the prominent figures in this family was CT de Waal, who was the first winemaker in South Africa to make a wine from the new local grape variety, Pinotage, in 1941.

DeWaal Wines specializes in beautiful red wines and specifically in Pinotage, of which 3 different styles are produced.  DeWaal Wines is home to the oldest vineyard of Pinotage in the world.  This single vineyard block was planted in April 1950 and still produces fantastic grapes today, the flagship Top of the Hill Pinotage is produced from this vineyard.

The Top of the Hill Fun Walk takes place monthly in the summer months and is very popular.  For more details, see our website www.dewaal.co.za

Please note the farm is closed on Sundays.  The farm is open however on Saturdays and most public holidays.
