Overview

Lemberg Wine Estate is located in the heart of scenic Tulbagh Valley, surrounded by the views of the majestic Witzenberg and Winterhoek mountains. It lies 120 km northeast of Cape Town, and 5 km south of historic Tulbagh.

Winemaker, Janey Muller, established Lemberg in 1978. It became known for its Sauvignon Blanc, its Harslevelu and for being the smallest wine estate in the Western Cape. Janey Muller reportedly named the estate after her husband’s place of birth, Lemberg, historically part of the Austrian empire, Poland (Lwow), the Soviet Union, and now Ukraine (Lviv).

New German owners, Klaus and Uschi Schindler took over the farm in 1994. They expanded by building a new wine cellar and the rondavel guest house, and planting new vines. They had a 60 ton cellar where small quantities of Estate Pinot Noir, Pinotage, Syrah and a Sauvignon Blanc were produced.

Since we purchased the farm in 2001, Suzette and I have been fortunate to share knowledge from one of South Africa’s iconic winemakers, Jan Boland Coetzee. We’ve also enlarged and renovated the farm, with new cellars, wine tasting facilities, and additional plantings. Cultivars at Lemberg now include Pinot Noir, Pinotage, Shiraz, Grenache Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier and Harsevelu.

Lemberg’s Mission is to continually improve as a boutique vineyard of recognized excellence, via a handcrafted approach to high quality wine making.

With total dedication, we live a dream so eloquently stated by Robert Mondavi, and look forward to sharing this passion with you.
